Research Scientist - Computational Chemistry (all genders)

Your Tasks

The Active Ingredients Discovery team at Beiersdorf discovers and designs new compounds to address unmet consumer needs in skin care. Located in Beiersdorf's research center in Hamburg, Germany, we are seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join our team of experts in the discovery of active ingredients for topical application. The successful candidate will work in our research and development team to identify, design, and optimize new molecules for topical use in cosmetic products.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Design and optimize skin-active compounds using molecular modeling, docking, dynamics simulations, and generative chemistry.
  • Predict and analyze compound properties (efficacy, ADME/Tox, skin penetration) using QSAR, cheminformatics, and machine learning (Python, RDKit).
  • Manage and analyze large datasets for compound discovery.
  • Lead interdisciplinary projects and collaborate with chemistry, biology, toxicology, and formulation teams to drive innovation.
  • Stay updated on computational tools and mentor junior scientists.
  • Support formulation development by modeling skin permeation, solubility, and stability.

Your Profile

  • Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry or Cheminformatics or a related field with significant experience.
  • Proficiency in molecular modeling tools (e.g., Schrödinger) and cheminformatics.
  • Experience with generative chemistry, data analysis, and machine learning tools (Python, RDKit).
  • Expertise in dermatological drug discovery, skin permeation modeling, and regulatory requirements for topical product development.
  • Proven leadership in managing projects and working with diverse, multicultural teams.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written) with excellent communication skills.

The salary range is approximately EUR 80,000 - 86,000 gross depending on knowledge and experience plus benefits.
